Ian Watchorn 2005 violin
This instrument is based on an original Stainer of 1670, belonging to Stanley Ritchie. It has been set up in classical condition, based on a Viennese set-up of around 1790. The belly is of 2 pieces of fine grained pine, bookmatched. The back is 2 pieces of ¼ sawn figured maple, the sides matching. The neck and pegbox are of plain maple.
The violin has a strong, bright tone, typical of the Stainer model, with a big dynamic range and great clarity. It is suitable for baroque, classical and early romantic playing.
