Matthew Hardie violin
This violin is unlabelled but will be sold with a certificate.
Matthew Hardie (1755-1826) worked in Edinburgh from 1796 and is perhaps the best Scottish maker, often called the ‘Scottish Stradivari’. He is renowned for his excellent workmanship, and this particular violin shows that in abundance, notably the precise purfling & refined scroll.
The top is of medium to fine spruce, the back one-piece of well chosen maple with matching ribs & head. The varnish is a resplendent red-gold on a golden ground.
This violin and all our other fine instruments are for sale at The Violineri in Melbourne – please contact us by phone or use the form below.
