W.H. Dow, Melbourne violin
This violin is labelled to the top block:
William Henry Dow was born in Scotland in 1835, moved to Melbourne in 1854 and died in 1927. He made about 250 violins, violas and cellos, and was noted for his neat workmanship and splendid purfling.
This violin features a gold brown varnish on a golden ground and a well-flamed two-piece maple back.
